Jacket Volleyball Stings Winters

WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – After a straight set road loss to reigning Northern Section Division V champion East Nicolaus the Yellowjackets returned home to take care of business against Winters.

Against a powerful and unbeaten Spartan squad, Williams, without the services middle hitter/blocker Lupita Zuniga, fell by scores of 20-25, 10-25, 13-25.

Sophomore Yurydia Rocha continued to play well in her inaugural varsity season accounting for five kills and seven digs, while Estefany Carabeo and Daisy Ruiz made nine and seven digs respectively.

However, back in the confines of their home gym, the ‘Jackets’, despite playing somewhat raggedly at times, emerged with the 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 win thanks in part to some clutch serving.

Rocha again provided the firepower with 10 kills and four aces, while defensively Gisele Navarro finished with a team-high 18 digs.

Setter Adriana Paiz dished out 19 assists and made 10 digs as well.

Carabeo was also a factor in the back row making 12 digs, as was Ruiz with 11 more.

Hoping to be back at full strength this week, Williams (5-5) hosted Maxwell on Tuesday, and then headed to the Hamilton City tournament, which runs from Sep. 5–7
