Coronado Remains a Red Hawk, Signs with Simpson

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Quarterback Bo Coronado led the Colusa High School football team to its first ever state championship earlier this year and now as he begins the next phase of his athletic career, he will again play for a Red Hawk team after signing with Simpson University in Redding in a ceremony last month attended by his family, friends, coaches and teammates.

After throwing for 2,632 yards and 31 touchdowns in his final season for Colusa, Coronado joins a Simpson squad that is fielding a football team for the first time in 2024, something that he found appealing in making his choice.

“I really liked that I had the opportunity to be first, “ said the All-Northern Section selection. “I’m a person who wants to make history.”

It is precisely that competitive spirit and confidence that his coach in Colusa, Mikey Badaluco, believes makes Coronado such an asset to a team.

“Bo exceeded every expectation by going 24-3 as the starting varsity quarterback in addition to winning two section championships and a state championship,” said Badaluco. “He seemed to raise his level of play as the moment got bigger, which is the best trait you can have in a quarterback.”

In addition to getting the chance to set the standard at Simpson, Coronado, who plans to study business, also felt comfortable with the coaching staff and the school in general, as he explained, “In talking to the coaches, they seemed very interested in having me play there and I also thought the school was really nice and not too big.”

Coronado and his new Red Hawk teammates take the field for a scrimmage at home on August 24, before opening their inaugural season on August 31 against the College of Idaho in Caldwell.
