Local Softball Players Featured on All-League Squads

COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Three pitchers and nine position players from Colusa County’s high school softball teams earned spots on their respective All-League teams as the book closed on the 2024 season.

Colusa had four players recognized, Maxwell and Princeton had three apiece while Pierce and Williams each had one.

What follows is the breakdown by league and team.

 

Sacramento Valley League

Colusa:

Colusa’s Ava Garcia

After finishing tied for second place with Willows, the RedHawks saw Ava Garcia, Abril Guzman, Addison Lay and Edith Anderson receive recognition for their efforts.

In the circle, Garcia dominated league opponents, recording 131 of her 262 strikeouts in the SVL, while also helping her cause by batting .458 and driving in 20 runs.

Guzman, Garcia’s battery mate, hit .391 with 23 RBI this season, to earn a nod, while fellow junior Lay held down first base and had a .219 batting average.

One of Colusa’s two seniors, Anderson played well at the hot corner, had an OPS of .984 and finished with a .377 batting average.

 

Pierce:

Pierce’s Lily Lievanos

Senior Lily Lievanos who hit .204 and scored 17 runs was the All-SVL selection representing the eighth place Bears.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mid-Valley League

Maxwell:

Maxwell’s Bailee Haywood

In their final season for the Panthers a trio of seniors including Shelby Dunlap, Bailee Haywood and Emma Hendrix were named to the All-MVL team for third place Maxwell.

Dunlap, from the leadoff spot hit .571, had on OBP of .662, and led the conference in stolen bases with 58 in addition to scoring 37 runs.

Haywood led the MVL in strikeouts, finishing the season with 157, then averaged .490 at the plate.

For her part, Hendrix proved to be a tough out, as she sported a .580 average and an OBP of .667.

 

Williams:

Although no statistics were provided, junior Madison Davalos received an All-League nod for the Yellowjackets.

 

Evergreen League

Princeton:

Princeton’s Sissy Winn

League champion Princeton saw pitcher Sissy Winn named the Most Valuable Player after the sophomore recorded 45 strikeouts as the Eagles ran the table in conference play.

Joining Winn on the All-EL team was sophomore Jenna Silva who had a .519 batting average and 25 stolen bases, along with junior Mackenzie Wills who hit .510 with four home runs and 25 steals.
