Softball/Baseball Roundup

Softball:

Pierce 17 – Princeton 13 (3/11)

Pierce 17 – Williams 3  (3/12)

Pierce 2 – Woodland 16 (3/15)

After putting 34 runs on the board in its first two games last week against Princeton and Williams, Pierce had the tables turned when it fell to Woodland.

In the slugfest against the visiting Eagles, Lily Lievanos went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBI, while Aubrey Hagle also collected two hits.

Pierce Freshman Kendall Mulqueeny is hitting .467 for the Bears this season.

Sofia Rubio hit a home run and finished the day with four RBI and Kendall Mulqueeny tripled.

Isela Ambriz struck out nine to earn the win in the circle.

Hosting Williams the following day, Mulqueeny went 3 for 4 with a double, as did Cierra Dye to lead the Bears at the plate.

Hagle ended 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Danica Wilkerson and Jocelyn Ramos handled the pitching duties.

Against the Wolves in Woodland, Hagle tripled while Mulqueeny, Lievanos and Ramos accounted for the only other hits.

Pierce (4-4) was back at it this week with a doubleheader in Willows on Mar. 19.

 

Baseball:

Pierce 14 – Williams 2 (3/12)

The Bears picked up two easy wins over local competition last week to push their record on the season to 4-3.

Pierce’s Colin Dye struck out six in three innings of work as the Bears downed Williams 14-2.

Against visiting Princeton, Roberto Ramirez swung a hot bat going 3 for 4 with four RBI to lead Pierce at the plate.

Rodney Hofhenke finished 2 for 2, while Mikey Acevedo and Tony Maldonado drove in two runs apiece.

On the hill, Hofhenke, Conner Harris and Easton Richins combined to limit the Eagles to just three hits in the game.

Making the short trip to Williams the following day, Ramirez and Maldonado each collected two hits.

Colin Dye struck out six in three innings of work on the mound before giving way to Richins who closed out the final two frames.

This week the Bears squared off against Delta at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento on Monday, hosted Willows on Tuesday in a Sacramento Valley League contest, then completed the series with the Honkers in Willows on Thursday.

 

Maxwell 12 – Esparto 2 (3/12)

Maxwell had no trouble with the visiting Spartans last Tuesday afternoon thanks to a big day from Tanner Vierra, in which the sophomore allowed no hits over his three innings on the mound, then additionally went 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBI at the plate.

Noel Velazquez finished 2 for 3 and Brody Jones knocked in four runs.

The Panthers (6-1) had a game scheduled on Mar. 14 in Anderson, but no information was provided.

Maxwell welcomed Princeton to town on Mar. 18, before playing a doubleheader against Mt. Shasta at home on Mar. 19.
