COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The RedHawks made a strong showing in their tournament named for long time coach Randy Watt, who spent 23 years at the helm.

Abril Guzman leads the RedHawks in RBIs with seven in five games.

In the 12th rendition of the tournament, Colusa bested the competition that included Winters, Yreka, Oroville and Corning.

Beginning tournament play with an 8-1 victory over Winters on Mar. 9, Edith Anderson finished 3 for 4 with an RBI while Elle Faris, Eliza Mitchum, Makayla Sciortino, Ava Garcia and Elli Santana each had two hits apiece.

Garcia turned in a dominant performance in the circle, striking out eight while scattering four hits.

Facing Yreka in the second game of the day, the RedHawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead only to see the Miners cut the lead to two in the top of the fourth.

But Colusa then added an insurance run in the fifth and although Yreka put one more on the board in the sixth, they could get no closer as Garcia closed the door with the last of her 13 strikeouts.

Anderson, Faris, Garcia and Abril Guzman accounted for the RedHawks only hits in the 6-4 win.

Saturday morning saw Colusa edge Oroville 3-1 as despite getting nine hits off Tiger pitching, they left 15 on base.

However, in the circle, Garcia fanned 14 to neutralize the Oroville offense.

Santana went 3 for 3 and Faris was 2 for 3 while Guzman drove in two runs without getting a hit.

Colusa’s Edith Anderson runs to first in the RedHawks’ win over Yreka at the Randy Watt Tournament.

To conclude the tournament, the RedHawks capitalized on eight Corning errors to prevail 8-2.

Garcia tossed two and two-thirds innings recording seven strikeouts before giving way to Olivia Nair who closed out the game.

Santana and Aliah Ramirez each finished 2 for 3 with a double while Anderson drove in three runs.

Unbeaten in five tries, Colusa hosted Paradise in a Sacramento Valley League match-up on Monday, hit the road to conclude the series with the Bobcats in Paradise on Tuesday before making the drive to Marysville today.
