Funding Needs for Groundwater Sustainability Plan Implementation
COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – The Colusa Groundwater Authority will hold Public Workshops throughout the area next week to discuss fee options to support implementation of its Groundwater Sustainability Plan.
The Authority hopes members of the public will plan to join them at one of these meetings to learn more about the Colusa Subbasin’s groundwater sustainability needs and how the Authority proposes to fund projects over the next several years to sustain groundwater, as required by the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014.
The meetings will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Colusa Veterans Hall, 1-99 E. Main St., Colusa; 6 pm on Thursday, Feb. 28, Sites Project Authority, 122 Old Highway 99W; and 6 pm on Friday, Feb. 29, at the Arbuckle Fire Department, 506 Lucas St. Arbuckle.
Community Meetings on Wildfire to be Held Â
COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) In January 2023, the County of Colusa was awarded a 2022 California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection County Coordinator Grant from the California Fire Safe Council.
The County Coordinator Grant was awarded to educate, encourage, and develop countywide collaboration and coordination among various wildfire mitigation groups operating within Colusa County. The County has partnered with the Colusa County Resource Conservation District and the Colusa County Fire Chiefs Association in hosting a series of Wildfire Risk and Mitigation Community Meetings to better understand community needs around wildfire risk and mitigation. Colusa County residents are encouraged to attend and participate in an upcoming meeting. Following the meetings, the County Community Development Department, the Colusa County Resource Conservation District, and the Colusa County Fire Chiefs Association will review findings and community feedback and begin to develop projects and a community engagement strategy and explore the establishment of a local Fire Safe Council.
Meetings will be held from 6-7 pm on Monday, Feb. 26, in the Colusa Industrial Properties Conference Room, 100 Sunrise Blvd., Colusa; from 6-7 pm on Thursday, Feb. 29, at the Williams Community Center, 860 C St., Williams; and from 6-7 pm on Wednesday, March 13, at the Stonyford Community Hall, 239 Market St., Stonyford.
Tire Amnesty Days Planned
WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – Colusa County is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a free tire disposal event for all county residents.
The event will take place on each Saturday in March (March 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30) from 8 am to 2 pm at Colusa County Road Department: 5714 E Street, Williams. This event is open to all county residents and provides an opportunity to dispose of old tires in an environmentally friendly manner. Residents are encouraged to bring in their used passenger car or truck tires, without rims, during this free event. Participants may bring in up to 9 tires for free recycling. California Fish and Game Commission Holds Hybrid MeetingÂ
SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – At its December meeting, the California Fish and Game Commission acted on several issues affecting California’s natural resources.
The following are just a few items of interest from this month’s meeting held in San Diego, with an option for the public to join via Zoom.
The Commission authorized publication of notice of its intent to amend regulations for waterfowl and big game hunting, including bighorn sheep, elk and deer.
The Commission unanimously approved the strategies recommended by its Wildlife Resources Committee (WRC) to address American bullfrog and non-native turtles found in California. Commission staff will work with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) on implementing the eight recommended strategies, including any regulatory proposals.
The Commission voted unanimously to adopt proposed amendments to regulations regarding incidental take authorization for work on pre-existing artificial structures within state marine protected areas and marine managed areas.
The Commission voted unanimously to adopt the 90-day extension of emergency regulations for California halibut recreational daily bag and possession limits.
The Commission authorized publication of notice of its intent to amend recreational fishing regulations for federal groundfish in state waters for consistency with federal rules in 2024, and recreational groundfish seasons, bag and depth limits.
Commission President Eric Sklar and Vice President Erika Zavaleta participated in the full meeting, Commissioner Jacque Hostler-Carmesin participated the first day and most of the second day, and Commissioner Samantha Murray participated the second day; all commissioners were in San Diego for the meeting. There is currently one vacancy on the Commission.
The next meeting of the full Commission is scheduled for February 14-15, 2024, at the Natural Resources Headquarters Building in Sacramento and via Zoom. Agendas are available online at wildlife.ca.gov.
