Register now for Raising A Reader!

Registration is now open for the Colusa County Free Library’s Raising A Reader (RAR) program. RAR is a 10-week, pre-literacy skills building program for children 0-5 and their caregivers. Weekly 45-minute programs include play, songs, stories, activities, and book bags to check out and read at home. RAR starts Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Colusa (9:15 am), Williams (11 am), and Maxwell (1 pm); and Jan. 25 Arbuckle (9:30 am). ARTventures at the Library – Williams 

This month’s ARTventures will be held from 3:30 to 5 pm at the Williams Branch Library, 901 E St., Colusa. ARTventures is a free monthly art program for kids ages 8-13, hosted by the Colusa County Arts Council at the Arbuckle, Grimes, Maxwell, Williams, and Colusa branches of the Colusa County Free Libraries. Younger artists are welcome but may need a helping parent. Seating is limited, all materials are free. Learn more at colusa-county-arts.org.

Chamber Ribbon Cutting

Colusa Connections, PneumaCare Health and Colusa Medical Center’s new community resource center, will celebrate its Grand Opening event from 11 am to 4 pm on Thursday, Jan. 18, 199 E. Webster St. Chamber Ribbon Cutting will be at 11 am, followed by a lunch of free hot dogs, veggie burgers, fresh fruit, chips, and cookies. Colusa Connections is a one-stop destination for support, growth, and connection.

Author’s Evening with Margaret Fox

Margaret Fox, former owner of Mendocino’s beloved Cafe Beaujolais (1977-2000) and Culinary Director of Harvest Market (2004-2022), will talk about her life in the world of food at the Colusa County Free Library on Thursday, Jan. 18. Her two books, Cafe Beaujolais and Morning Food, both co-written with John Bear, reveal and celebrate her unintended life in the restaurant business located in the coastal town of Mendocino. Please join the Friends of Colusa County Free Library at 6:30 pm for a social hour, followed by Margaret’s talk at about 7 pm.

 

Saturday, Jan. 20

Rotary Nite at the Races

The Rotary Club of Colusa will host its annual Nite at the Races on Saturday, Jan. 20. The fun-filled event builds community camaraderie and raises money that supports the charitable activities of the club and other local projects and programs. Nite at the Races is an exciting evening of video horse racing, a gourmet dinner, open bar, and derby hat contest (prizes). Derby hats encouraged but are not required. Admission is $75 per person and includes $20 in play money and great prize-winning opportunities. Cocktails 5 pm; dinner and horseracing 6 pm. Learning Wellness at the Libraries 

Let’s Move! Colusa County Behavioral Health will offer free Yoga, with certified instructor Pamela Triggs, from 10-11 am, on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the Colusa County Free Library, 738 Market St., Colusa. Bring your own mat if possible. Beginners welcome. Modified poses available for those with limited movement. Yoga can improve flexibility, strength, and concentration, while boosting mood and reducing stress and joint strain.

 

Thursday, Jan. 25

LIVE LIT 

The Colusa County Arts Council will host Live Lit, a free evening celebrating the literary arts in Colusa County, 6 PM to 7:30 PM on Thursday, January 25th, at the Arts Council, 151 Fifth St., Colusa. The program is open to all ages. The evening will feature local writers performing short readings of poems, stories, and nonfiction. Learn more at colusa-county-arts.org.

 

Saturday, Jan. 27

Knights Take-out Dinner

The Arbuckle Knights of Columbus will host its Chicken and Tri-Tip Take-out Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 27. Both will be served with all the fixings from 3-6 pm. Pick up at the Arbuckle Catholic Church Hall, 408 Laurel Street, Arbuckle. Dinner is $25 per person; $100 for a family meal. The take-out dinner is a fundraiser to support the activities of the local John Paul II Council No. 14112, a Catholic fraternal organization that emphasizes church, family, and community.

 

Saturday, Jan. 27

4-H Presentation Day

Colusa County 4-H Presentation Day will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Colusa High School. The day’s schedule will be as follows: 9 am Check-in, receive room assignments; 9:15 am Evaluator/Room Coordinator Orientation and Assignments; 9:30 am Welcome Assembly; 10 am Presentations begin in assigned rooms. Sacred Heart Sodality Card Party

The Sacred Heart Sodality will host its annual card party, on Saturday, Feb. 10. The event begins with a luncheon at 11:30 am, followed by an afternoon of Bridge, Pinochle or Whist. High point and raffle prizes will be awarded. Doors open at 11 am. Donation is $20. Location will be Sacred Heart Church Parish Hall, 45 Elm St. Maxwell.
