COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – The filing deadline for three seats on the Colusa County Board of Supervisor is one week away, and only one incumbent supervisor has filed for re-election as of Monday.
District 3 Supervisor Kent Boes, who currently serves as Chairman of the Board, will seek to retain his seat in the March 5 primary.
The seats of District 2 Supervisor Daurice Kalfsbeek-Smith and District 4 Supervisor Gary Evans are also up for election.

The March ballot is also set for Colusa County Superior Court Judge, with Colusa attorney Luke Steidlmayer declaring his candidacy Nov. 3 for Judge of the Colusa County Superior Court. Steidlmayer is seeking to replace Elizabeth Ufkes Olivera, who did not seek re-election for her seat on the bench.
New Body Cameras, Radiosfor Sheriff’s Office
COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – The Colusa County Board of Supervisors last month authorized the Sheriff’s Office to purchase 15 new body-worn cameras for its correctional staff.
Body cams are an excellent tool to handle disputes, officer complaints and grievances, handling criminal cases within the jail, and lowering liability for lawsuits, officials said.
The $76,800, which will be paid to Axon Enterprises over a five-year period, includes the storage and retention of footage through the statute of limitation for officer grievances and lawsuits. The board on Nov. 7 also waived the competitive bidding process and authorized the purchase of seven new Motorola portable radios with accessories through Sutter Buttes Communications. The radios, which cost $37,628, are funded through a Homeland Security Grant, officials said.
Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry Appointed Majority Leader
SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas on Nov. 22 appointed Assemblymember Cecelia Aguiar-Curry to Assembly Majority Leader.
Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry has served as the Speaker Pro Tempore since July and has been in the State Assembly since December 2016. She also serves as vice chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus.
“I am proud that Speaker Rivas has honored me with this appointment,” said
Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), in a news release. “I share the Speaker’s commitment to collaboration with all our colleagues in the Assembly, and our partners in the Senate and the Newsom Administration. I stand ready to support him, work for all Californians, and fight for the values of our Assembly Democratic Caucus in this new role.”
As Majority Leader, Aguiar-Curry will work closely with the Speaker and Speaker Pro Tempore to expedite proceedings and build agreement across a historically large caucus.
“Cecilia is a trusted friend and colleague who I’m proud to have worked with closely in the past, and has my full confidence for the work ahead,” said Rivas.
Work Together to Prevent DUIs this Holiday Season
SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control encourages ABC licensees to help prevent DUIs and check identifications closely to prevent underage drinking during the holidays. ABC also wants to remind the public to have a plan in place for a sober driver to get everyone home safely.
ABC is partnering with the California Office of Traffic Safety and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to help keep communities safe through New Year’s Day. ABC strongly advises people to remember to designate a sober driver, use public transportation or a ride-hailing service.
“Let’s keep friends and loved ones safe this holiday season,” said ABC Director
Joseph McCullough. “Remember to plan before you celebrate to get everyone home safely. ABC licensees can help keep communities safe by carefully checking identifications and ensuring customers are not overserved.”
ABC will be utilizing education and prevention programs, and enforcement where necessary in collaboration with local law enforcement, licensed establishments, and community stakeholders to help make the holiday season as safe as possible. Visit abc. ca.gov to see how the department protects communities through education, prevention, and enforcement programs designed to increase compliance with California’s alcoholic beverage laws.
