The Colusa County Gun Owner’s Association held its first dinner fundraiser in Colusa on Saturday.
The intimate 100-person event featured a plated steak dinner, cocktails, and plenty of games and raffles.
“It was very successful,” said Jennifer Diaz, secretary. “We were sold out.”
The Colusa County Gun Owners Association is a chapter of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, with a mission to promote the Second Amendment and the culture and rights it is meant to protect.
Master of Ceremonies, Tim Gomes, said the Association’s mission is to lobby for the rights of people to own and bear arms, which is what the people of this nation have always done.
Gomes said gun safety education should begin early so people develop a positive, rather than negative, image of law-abiding gun owners.
“There should be shooting sports in schools,” Gomes said. “This is something that has started to die out, and we can’t let that happen.”
The Colusa County Youth Shooting Club (Ducks) served dinner, which was organized by a committee composed of members Janice Bell, Jennifer Diaz, Morgan D’Ambrosio, Tony and Diana Lytal, and Joe and Annelie Lauwerijssen.
Not forgotten at the event was the organization’s past president, the late Lew Manor, who received a moment of silence.
Manor, who died Dec. 25, 2021, was an active defender of the U.S. Constitution, particularly the Second Amendment, as the founder of the Colusa County Gun Owners Association and the Colusa County State of Jefferson Committee. ■
