Runners trek through almond country

A strong showing of runners turned out for the 2023 Arbuckle Almond Fun Run on Sunday to raise money for the Pierce band program.

Dozens of walkers and runners in Sunday’s Almond Fun Run in Arbuckle crossed the finish line on Sunday to mark another successful fundraiser for Pierce education.

The Arbuckle Fun Run for Education Committee hosted the annual 1-mile and 5-K event this year to support the Pierce band program.

Although rain and wind had been predicted, the sun shined throughout the event, helping to take the winter chill out of the air.

Runners of all ages were rewarded for their efforts with a special gift bag, filled with donated items, such as snack sized Blue Diamond almonds.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded for multiple age divisions for both the 1-mile and 5K place finishers. Awards were also given to record breakers and the fastest in the race pushing a stroller.

For Devin Harris, a seasoned 50K runner, winning the 5K in just 20 minutes was like a walk in the park.

The Arbuckle Almond Fun Run was started 10 years ago, disrupted only by the pandemic.
Runners came from throughout Colusa County. A mother and son came for the event from the Bay Area.

Runners were cheered on by Pierce High School cheerleaders and Don Joel, leading a few band members in horse racing calls and other songs. ■
