The Colusa County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 17 approved modified contracts with the cities of Colusa and Williams to provide Animal Control services.
The agreements were last modified in 2016, officials said.
Williams and Colusa shall pay Colusa County the sum of $30,811 per calendar year starting Jan. 1 for all animal control service provided, according to the contract. Payments will be made in four equal installments.
The new modification provides for a five percent increase each year through 2026, including updated amounts for the cost of administering rabies tests, officials said. The cities shall pay on a case-by-case fee for rabies tests at $115 for dogs, cats, and other animals from zero to 80 pounds and $134 for dogs, cats, and other animals 80 pounds and over. There will be a fee of $57 for bats and other small animals subject to testing.
The county shall provide animal control services to the cities at the same level of service that is provided for the unincorporated areas of Colusa County, except for altering dedicated patrol times.
All animal control services shall be provided between 8:30 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, except holidays. Access to the Animal Control Shelter shall be provided 24 hours a day. According to the contract, Colusa County Animal Control shall not be responsible for responding to, or removing, dead animals from public or private property or streets unless there is a rabies control issue involved. Animal Control is also not responsible for barking dog complaints or enforcing city municipal codes pertaining to the number of animals allowed, the contract states.
Cruelty to animals cases will be investigated by city personnel on cases that occur in the city. Animal Control officers will assist with the recovery/seizure of an animal, if needed, and provide expertise as to the condition of an animal. If a seizure is requested by city personnel, the city shall pay all associated costs as a result of that seizure up to and including boarding, food, and veterinary care for the animal seized during the 14-day waiting period – up to and including a trial if necessary. â–
