PJUSD school board race back and forth

Voters on the Colusa County side of the electorate in the Pierce Joint Unified School District have their favorites for the two school board seats that were up for grabs in the Nov. 8 election, but Dunigan residents in Yolo County have another configuration in mind.

With more votes counted in both counties, and still more to count, it may be unclear – until the election is certified – who will join Melissa Ehrke Doherty in replacing trustees Barbara Bair and Amy Charter, who step down at the end of the year.

Doherty is the top vote getter in both counties, receiving a whopping 867 votes combined, as of Tuesday. While Iluixochiti Perez Dudley, with 571 votes, beat Ross’ 528 votes in Colusa County, Ross picked up 115 votes from the Dunnigan area over Dudley’s 87. Unofficial results had Ross ahead last week by 10 but now place Dudley ahead by 15 votes.

As of Nov. 22, Yolo County reported 687 ballots were left to count, including 38 forwarded from other counties, 123 provisional, and 526 needing further review, a fairly insignificant amount for a population of 217,000.

Pierce had four candidates for the two seats. Juan Manuel Garcia, who came in 25 votes ahead of Dudley in Yolo County, has received 384 votes total between the two counties so far.
