Election department to get a little help

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors approved a temporary position for the Clerk-Recorder Registrar of Voters to work as extra help, effective Nov. 1, but not to exceed 960 hours in a fiscal year and 28 hours per week.

The individual, who will be paid $15 an hour, is a PERS retiree who used to work for the department seasonally in this capacity and has the experience and knowledge to be able to step in with little training, said Clerk-Recorder Rose Gallo-Vasquez. The worker will assist in ballot processing, the canvass and manual vote count tally, and any other duties needed to certify the November 2022 election by the Dec. 8 deadline.

Turnout is expected to be high for Tuesday’s election because of all of the local contests and measures, officials said.

Gallo-Vasquez said she anticipates counting and processing to take several weeks, but utilizing the expertise of a county retiree for a specific time will enable the work to be accomplished to meet the department’s deadlines.

The position does not provide for any additional benefits, officials said. â–
