Ministerial Association to coordinate senior nutrition program

The Ministerial Association of Colusa County has been contracted to provide coordinated meal services for the Senior Nutrition program, effective Oct. 1. The Colusa County Board of Supervisors approved the agreement on Sept. 27.

The Department of Health and Human Services requested the nonprofit take over providing meal site services, which will see the return of a congregate senior meal program on the west side of the county for the first time in well over a decade.

MACC is an association of 21 local churches and parishes that coordinates charitable endeavors throughout Colusa County, officials said. Food programs, as well as housing, transportation, and clothing, are among the core focuses of MACC when serving and supporting the community.

County officials said the agreement would allow Health and Human Services to utilize the Associations’ facilities, volunteer base, and expertise to keep providing services within the Senior Nutrition Program in a more effective and efficient manner.

Sharing the costs of food delivery, congregate site operation, and personnel will result in some cost savings to taxpayers by reducing reliance on Public Health staff.

By utilizing MACC’s volunteer program, HHS will be able to save the cost of about three full-time employees.

Officials said there is no impact to the county’s general fund as the costs will be covered by the Area Agency on Aging grant for fiscal year 2022/23. Funds contained in the current budget amount to about $243,000. ■
