County to investigate harassment allegation

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors has hired a private investigator to get to the bottom of allegations made against a county employee.

According to County Administrative Officer Wendy Tyler, county staff was made aware of allegations of “inappropriate” behavior in the workplace in June.

County Counsel determined that an outside investigator was warranted because the investigation exceeded the capacity  of the Human Resources Department, Tyler said in a staff report to the board.

The board on Tuesday, as an item on the consent calendar, ratified a contract signed by Tyler for Kramer Workplace Investigations, of Danville, to investigate allegations of harassment, bullying, and other misconduct raised against a county employee.

Investigator Karen Kramer will be the primary investigator. The cost to the county for the services and legal advice will be $150 to $395.

The full cost of the investigation will be borne by the department in which the investigation is being conducted, Tyler said.

The information related to the investigation, including interviews, documents, and analysis will be protected by attorney/client and work product privilege, unless the county waives those privileges.
