Colusa police officers recognized

The Colusa Police Department recognized three of its officers in June for exemplary performance on duty.

Officer Michah Hogan was recognized for his assistance with a special needs member of the community, who needed help during a difficult transition. His actions were complimented by several individuals who saw the interaction, Police Chief Josh Fitch reported.

Officer Newbrian Lee was recognized for his assistance with a pursuit. Officer Lee deployed spike strips, which disabled the suspect vehicle, and then assisted the pursuing agency with taking the suspect into custody. During the pursuit, Officer Lee took the opportunity to train a junior officer with how to coordinate and safely deploy a spike strip. Officer Lee continues to mentor other officers after their field training program and is an excellent role model, Fitch said.

Officer Darren Ram was recognized for his interactions with an individual who was conducting what is known on YouTube as a “First Amendment audit.”

The individual contacted Colusa County and City of Colusa employees in various facilities. The “auditor” engaged various government employees with the intention of being antagonistic to seek a reaction; however, Officer Ram remained calm and professional, Fitch said.

Both Fitch and Lt. Sara Martin received several compliments and other positive feedback from members of the community, other law enforcement officers, and viewers of the Youtube footage from out of the area.
