County receives funding for oral health care

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a grant agreement with California Department of Public Health to implement the local Oral Health Program effective July 1. The Public Health unit of the Department of Health and Human Services was awarded $724,445 in funding from the CDPH to develop the local Oral Health Program, officials said. The oral health plan was implemented to provide education, prevention, linkages to treatment, oversight and case management services.

The Public Health unit will conduct an assessment to determine the oral health needs of Colusa County residents, while also developing a strategic plan to address those needs using an evidence-based service model.

“Oral health is an essential component of overall wellbeing and the ability to maintain good physical and mental health,” DHHS officials said. The funding will be distributed to Public Health over the course of five years in equal installments of $144,889. ■
