County to purchase vehicles for mobile clinics

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the purchase of two mobile medical units utilizing federal funding they were allocated as a part of COVID-19 response.

The local Department of Health and Human Services requested the purchase to increase capacity for providing public health services in the community, officials said.

The county will seek proposals for the two units.

DHHS is seeking both a 37 foot motorhome type vehicle and a smaller 19 foot box van vehicle.

Both will be fully equipped to function as mobile clinics and will include handicap accessibility, basic medical equipment, vaccine refrigerators and freezers, exam tables, lights, and more.

The scope of this project includes all design, construction, equipment, training, and delivery of the mobile clinics.

The County is still accepting proposals to design an RV-style mobile clinic, the vehicles must be new from 2021-2023, and it may run on gasoline or diesel.

For the 37 foot motorized vehicle, the county is asking for a minimum of one exam room, two testing rooms, a reception area, where an additional person can wait, a Vital Signs area with a sink, medical vaccine refrigerator, staff refrigerator, workspace, a restroom with handicap accessibility, while also having a wheelchair lift that is patient-friendly and easy to navigate. There must also be a 35 foot Shore Power Cord, a Communication and Peripherals package including Satellite phone capabilities, UHF Radio, and mobile internet.

he county also requested the vehicles have a 24 inch flat-screen TV with an exterior outlet, electric awning, deluxe cabinetry, cabinet to hold lab equipment, and an approximate 18 foot by 12 foot lab area.

For the smaller 19 foot box van vehicle, one exam room, lab area, and one bathroom is required. Storage cabinets, ADA lift, and the same communications package as the larger vehicle are needed. A reception desk must also be included.

In addition to equipment, the vehicles will have privacy curtains, exam tables, and lights with chair, mobile cart, glove dispensers, needle containers for disposal, otoscope, and sphygmomanometer, physician’s stool, and Vital Signs equipment.

The county will consider other vehicles that meet the needs specified. Proposals are required to be submitted on or before 2 PM on July 7. ■
