Fair Foundation raising money for building improvements

The Colusa County Fair Foundation will be asking people to raise their paddles after the Livestock Auction’s Sale of Champions on June 11 to donate for a very good cause.

In addition to the “Pig Showmanship” fundraiser on Wednesday, June 8, at the TK Marshall arena, the Fair Foundation Board of Directors hope people will dig deep to contribute in a more meaningful way with a “Fund-a-Need” donation opportunity that begins at the 2022 Colusa County Fair.

Fundraising over the next few years will be dedicated to revonovating the Main Exhibit Building, the true centerpiece of the fairgrounds. The renovations include stucco to the outside of the building ($75,000); a new roof ($50,000); air conditioning ($150,000); a frame over roof ($35,000); refurbish kitchen and restrooms ($200,000).

The capital campaign will need the generous support of the community, the Board of Directors announced. Contributors will be allowed to remit their contributions in equal installments over a two-year period.

“While we recognize that it’s not feasible to raise this amount of funding in just one year, we also don’t expect to make this an annual fundraising event,” the board stated in a letter. “Rather, we currently plan to be back at the junior livestock auction for our second ‘Fund-a-Need’ event in 2024.”

The Fair Foundation board said every contribution is meaningful, regardless of the dollar amount.

“The Main Exhibit Building is used by a vast array of community groups and organizations, and we believe these organizations, and many others, would benefit greatly from significant improvement to the facility,” the board noted. “Additionally, with the proposed renovations, the facility would certainly become a significant revenue generated for the fairgrounds from rental proceeds.” ■
