A wildfire along the Sacramento River north of Colusa on Tuesday threatened structures and orchards and burned a number of acres of riparian vegetation.
Sacramento River Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the vegetation fire on the west side of the river near Brown Road around 12:40 PM. A second fire was reported on the east side of the river around 1:45 PM, which also threatened Boggs Equipment repair on River Road, and an evacuation advisory was given to all residents in the area.
A number of agencies, including Maxwell, Colusa, Williams, Grand Island, and Meridian, were called in to assist in containing the blaze, along with a Cal Fire helicopter and Colusa County Animal Control to assist with removing animals from the fire area.
As fire agencies fought the blaze from the ground and air in hot windy conditions, a private water tender overturned on the levee about 4:05 PM about a mile north of Butte Slough Road, resulting in moderate injuries and emergency services being provided by Colusa’s BLS unit.
At about 3 PM officials said the fire had burned 445 acres and was 75% contained.
The fire was largely contained and most of the flames extinguished by 6 PM. ■
