Colusa Farm to Fork a cool success

Dr. Chad Gidel, center, with family and staff enjoy the fifth annual Farm to Fork dinner in Veterans Memorial Park in Colusa on June 24.

After days of scorching temperatures, last Thursdays cloud cover provided much needed relief for those attending the Colusa Certified Farmers Market – and more than 200 of the markets biggest supporters.

The fifth annual Farm to Fork Dinner highlighted a wide variety of foods produced throughout the region and sold at the Farmers Market, which is held each Thursday in Colusa Veteran Memorial Park.

The Colusa Chamber of Commerce organizes the fundraiser, which supports the market and helps fund the Premier Mushroom Grant Program, which provides small but critical grants to many local non-profit organizations for art and literacy programs, fire prevention education, and community events.

” We have so many people who support and contribute to this event,” said Jennifer Diaz, Chamber manager. ” We couldnt do this without them.

The dinner, although a ticketed event, also serves to recognize donors and food contributors.

More than 200 tickets were sold, including to two separate out-of-town couples who just happened to be at the Farmers Market, saw the lovely venue, and bought tickets at the gate.

Diaz said the 2020 Farm to Fork dinner had been canceled due to the pandemic, so a successful 2021 dinner was important to keep the groups mission alive.

All the food was donated and prepared by local restaurants and businesses, including Roccos Bar and Grill, which prepared the main fare: appetizers and prime rib. Market Street Grill prepared the vegetable lasagna.

While many helped with the dinner, the Colusa Ducks (Youth) Shooting Team volunteered their service as waiters. –
