Interaction with police on the rise in Williams.

Chief of Police Jim Saso reported last week that the Williams Police Department logged 800 events during the month of May 2021, up from 600 in April.

This included calls for service, proactive enforcement, and extra patrols.

The call volume when compared to May of 2020 has risen from 700 events.

Saso attributed the increase in call volume to improved weather along with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

During May, there were 62 reports initiated, 48 misdemeanor arrests, and five felony arrests. There were 70 citations issued for various traffic violations and misdemeanor charges.

WPD also took delivery of a new radar trailer. This trailer will allow WPD to deploy it around town to discourage speeders, all while collecting valuable traffic data that will specifically target the times and locations with the greatest volume of speeders, Saso said.

Saso said patrol officers have also taken a very proactive approach to traffic enforcement to address the recent concerns expressed regarding speeding vehicles, stop sign violations and modified vehicles (loud mufflers).

WPD officers also responded to a call for two unresponsive subjects in a vehicle at Orvs, who had apparently overdosed on opiates.

” The officers were able to wake the subjects and through the course of the investigation, locate and seize a large amount of methamphetamine and powder fentanyl,

Saso reported that WPD received a certificate of recognition of an outstanding partnership from the Migrant Resource Fair. The resource fair, sponsored by the Colusa County Office of Education, was held April 30. –
