Colusa extends fee moratorium to Fremont building projects

The Colusa City Council last week extended the fee moratorium on certain building projects to incentivize property owners in Colusa to upgrade their facades or make general repairs to their structures.

The fee moratorium in effect for Colusa downtown property owners has now been extended to include property owners on Fremont Street.

The moratorium covers permit fees, plan check, and inspection fees for existing buildings, officials aid.

Colusa City Manager Jesse Cain said the plan check and building inspection process would still occur on 100 percent of building projects.

” Only the fees would be waived,” Cain said.

The fee moratorium was first introduced at the Jan. 19 City Council meeting as an economic stimulus incentive. However, Cain said that while there was initial interest, no property owner has taken advantage of the program.

The fee moratorium applied only to existing buildings in the downtown area of Market Street, between Second and 13th streets, and Main Street, between Fourth and 12th streets, and includes the immediately adjacent streets.

The moratorium now applies to projects on Fremont Street, between 5th and 10th streets.

Cain said the fee moratorium will hopefully result in the business districts getting a refreshed look, which could help attract new businesses and increase the citys overall economic vitality.

The City Council approved the fee moratorium for another eight months. –
