Hundreds attended the 85th annual Maxwell Rodeo on Saturday, May 16, 2015.
The event began with a parade of over 30 entries including Colusa County Sheriff Garofalo, CALFire, Sacramento River Fire District, U.S. Department of Forestry, the Maxwell American Legion, the local little league and dozens of local businesses, cars and other entries. Live performances were given by Stardust Dance with a LEGO dance routine, and the Maxwell Fire Department dramatizing fighting fire during the drought with ” No Water Urine TroubleĀ.
Francis Ortiz served as the 85th Annual Grand Marshall. Ortiz settled in Maxwell in 1947, where she raised her four children. Ortiz worked for the Maxwell Unified School District as a Cafeteria Cook, and a school bus driver, she is also remembered for working behind the counter at Citizens Bank. Ortiz is dedicated to the community of Maxwell, and continues to be an active member of the community, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Stitch and Chatter Club and an active member of the Catholic Church. Ortiz also volunteered many years with the Maxwell Rodeo.
The 2015 Rodeo Chairman was served by Maxwell High School Senior, Chase Alvernaz. Alvernaz is the son of Alan and Karin Alvernaz. The Co-Chariman was served by Maxwell High Junior, Donnie Mason. Mason is the son of Dennis and Donna Wilson.
” The Maxwell Rodeo is a great time for the community to get together and have fun,” said Alvernaz.
Sixteen-year-old, Theresa LaGrande, served as the 2015 Stonyford Rodeo Queen during Colusa Western Days on Saturday, April 11, 2015. LaGrande is the daughter to Sid and Paige LaGrande and a sister to her twin Maureen.
” Rodeo is such a fun and exciting time!” said LaGrande, ” Its great to see all these contestants come out, ready to show and strut their skills off in the arena, with a smile on their face. Its nice that Maxwell High School helps keep the tradition of rodeo alive, gives the people the opportunity to participate, and offers the people of Maxwell some lively entertainment!Ā
The 2015 Maxwell Rodeo Princesses were, Sara Flemming, Nilah Pearson, and Molly Dunlap.
In addition to the parade and rodeo, the day included a Car Show, 5k Bull Run, Bench Press, Frog Derby, and Art Show.
The event is hosted annually by the student body and staff of Maxwell High School, and various community members.
