Starting the Summer Season with Teen Driving Class from the CHP

Arecent study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety discovered that the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day ” the summer months, when school is out ” are the deadliest nationwide for teens behind the wheel.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2015 the Williams Area CHP will host the ˜StartSmart class beginning at 6:30 PM at the Williams Area CHP Conference Room, 100 E Street in Williams.

The Start Smart program utilizes innovative techniques to capture the attention of teens and parents, providing a lasting learning experience. The curriculum is built based on collision statistics, teen driver and passenger behaviors, graduated driver license (GDL) laws, cultural changes in todays society, and the need for stronger parental involvement.

” Education is the most important aspect of a new drivers ability to develop positive driving habits,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. ” Programs like ˜StartSmart are geared towards influencing and educating Californias teen drivers to make the right choices when they get behind the wheel.

Parents and teenagers can sign up for the FREE ” Start Smart” class by contacting Officer Kristen Murphy at (530) 473-2821. Space is limited, seating reservation is required.
