Clouds departed as fair weather boasted another successful car show in downtown Arbuckle.
Celebrating 138 years, the community of Arbuckle held its annual Car Show and Train Depot Birthday BBQ on Sunday, October 26, 2014.
Laid out and surveyed in 1875, the small community was named after Tacitus Ryland Arbuckle, on whose ranch the town was built “an opportunity chanced.
At that time, the Northern Railroad was being constructed through the Sacramento Valley. With the tracks prospected for community of College City; the towns people discarded the thought of a railroad coming through its quaint town. Missing the boat, Tacitus sought the opportunity and readily offered the right away for a depot and sidings to the railroad company.
Tacitus dreams of a small city began. Land plots were sold off, and by the end of 1876, Arbuckle had grown from just a few families to a community of 300. Today, Arbuckle is the home to over 3,028.
The symbol of the towns foundership, the Arbuckle depot was built in 1876-1877 and today it is the only train depot remaining in Colusa County.
Erected quietly in the background, the Arbuckle Train Depot sits idly as hundreds of spectators walked the streets, searching for their favorite American Classic or tricked-out muscle cars during the 12 annual Arbuckle Car Show.
With over 213 hot rods, vintage trucks, motorcycles and classic cars came from around the state for what is considered the ˜best little town car show in the northern state.
” This is one of the best car shows weve been too,” said a spectator as he took photos of one of his favorite rides, ” I always make it a point to come back year after year.
With classic music jamming in the background, a community spirit haunted the streets as dozens of young community members dressed in their best costumes during the Childrens Halloween Parade.
The Arbuckle Revitalization Committee hosts the annual event.
Founded in 2002, the Arbuckle Revitalization Committee was formed by a group of citizens who had a vision to refresh, restore, and revitalize business and community pride in the town of Arbuckle. The Arbuckle Revitalization Committee has completed several projects throughout the town of Arbuckle that include the construction of two downtown parks, graffiti abatement, and town cleanup; in addition the organization is looking at the opportunity to restore the historic downtown Arbuckle Train Depot. –
