The Williams Police Department is investigating a rash of vehicle burglaries in various Williams city neighborhoods.
According to the Williams City Police, over the last couple weeks, over eight vehicles have been burglarized.
” The suspects began in the Valley Ranch Communities, and targeting vehicles that were unlocked; taking loose change,” said Sergeant Ed Anderson with the Williams Police Department.
However the incidents have escalated.
” Vehicles are now being burglarized throughout the city,” said Anderson, ” the suspects grabbing anything of value, cell phones, MP3 players, etc.
The Williams Police Department has ordered extra patrol in the residential areas.
” We have a few leads but nothing is concrete at this time,” said Anderson.
Some vehicle burglary prevention tips include:
– Always lock vehicle doors and roll up the windows.
– Valuables, especially purses, wallets and firearms should not be left in a car.
– Pull-out stereos or detachable faceplates should be removed from unattended vehicles.
– Never leave money in an ashtray or in plain view.
– Do not leave a garage-door remote inside a vehicle parked in the driveway. If a remote is stolen, the homeowner should immediately change the remote frequency.
– Attaching a tag with a name and address to a key ring will lead a thief directly to an address.
– Park in well lit areas.
– Consider an alarm system.
