WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – Garbage collection costs will increase nearly 4% for Williams residents and businesses beginning Jan. 1, 2027, under Recology’s annual rate adjustment.
Residential customers with a 96-gallon container will pay $43.42 per month, up from the current $41.78. For households billed quarterly, the new charge will be $130.26 instead of $125.34, adding $19.68 annually to their garbage bills.
Recology General Manager Marci Walton outlined the changes in an Aug. 28 letter to City Manager Yvonne Kimball, which was included in the Williams City Council’s written communications Oct. 21.
The 3.93% residential adjustment follows a formula established in the company’s franchise agreement with the city, which considers operating expenses, fuel and disposal costs.
Walton reported a 3.8% increase in the base-rate component and a 1% rise in disposal expenses. Fuel costs experienced the largest jump at 38.4%, although that category represents only a portion of the calculation used to determine the final amount charged to customers.
Commercial accounts will see an average increase of 3.9%, depending on container size and collection frequency.
Recology’s published rates currently list $147.21 per month for a 2-yard commercial container collected once weekly and $294.44 for a 4-yard bin with the same service frequency. Businesses requiring additional pickups pay more, with charges based on the level of service provided.
The company did not include a detailed schedule of the new commercial charges in its notification.
Residential service in Williams includes garbage, mixed recycling and organics collection. Recology’s published monthly fee incorporates all three services, with separate containers provided for each type of waste.
The franchise agreement provides for annual adjustments based on changes in operating costs, while requests for extraordinary increases are subject to separate review and approval requirements.
The City Council received Recology’s notification as an informational item requiring no action.
