Dear Editor,
We are writing this letter to express our gratitude for our Colusa library, which has served our family and all of our community, for over 100 years.
Leo remembers, as a kid, often going by myself, and walking up the stairs of the old Carnegie library, to seek out the quiet and peacefulness inside. Through the years, while working downtown, and now, in retirement, I have appreciated being able to just drop in and read the newspapers and magazines that are right at hand. I always find it so inviting, accessible, and current.
As a young Mom, new to Colusa, Cindy was grateful for the story-time hour, which our children delighted in and which gave me a little respite and then a chance to visit with other parents present. I continue to see that with our son and daughter-in-law and their kids, as they take advantage of the opportunities offered.
When our out-of-town grandchildren visit, they inevitably ask, “can we go to the library?”. They love perusing the stacks of books and participating in the fun activities that are available on the side tables.
The library is a mainstay of our town and we’re proud of its outreach to our community, offering: the adult literacy tutoring, as well as early literacy, summer reading, digital e-books and audiobooks, and workforce development, to name a few.
We’re so fortunate to have Stacey Zwald Costello as our Head Librarian, and the assistance of her helpful staff, who continue to augment the programs and opportunities that are available to us all. As Stacy wrote, “libraries have always been places to exercise our minds” and the many treasured books on the shelves help to do that.
We’re grateful to the Colusa County Arts Council and the artists who enhanced our library’s appearance with their colorful paints, and to the Master Gardeners, who maintain the outside gardens so beautifully; both showcasing the community pride in our library.
In closing, we appreciate that in our small town we have such a vibrant library, there for us all.
