COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Prior to the final game of a basketball marathon against Pierce on Feb. 5, Colusa High School honored its varsity and JV basketball head coaches in a ceremony involving both current and past players.
After 13 years at the helm of the RedHawk varsity program Coach Brian Davis, who has accrued a record of 219-127 in that span, is stepping down at the end of the season however, as was noted in the presentation, his leadership extends far beyond the basketball court.
A proponent of accountability, Davis instilled character and provided valuable life lessons, summed up by one of his frequent adages, “It’s bigger than basketball.”
For Davis his tenure was truly a labor of love, as he explained, “Colusa saved my life as the community was right there for me and my family in the most critical time a coach could ever have. The love Colusa has shown me and the love I have for Colusa just makes sense. Another of my favorite sayings is that there is no better job than a Colusa basketball coach. My time here was beyond a blessing in so many ways.”
Additionally receiving recognition was head JV coach Brendan Farrell, who is completing his 15th season and will continue in that capacity.
Farrell was also credited with making a lasting impact on players by setting a standard for consistency, effort and toughness that has helped shape responsible young men.
Colusa’s basketball teams round out the regular season at home tonight against Winters.
