First and Third Fridays, September through May

Pop-Up Playgroup & Storytime, 10 to 11 a.m. at the City of Colusa Auditorium, 425 Webster St., Colusa. First 5 Colusa will offer a free playgroup for families with children ages 0 to 5 featuring stories, crafts, activities and family time. A storytime and free book giveaway will be offered at the second playgroup each month. Upcoming dates are Sept. 4 and 18, Oct. 2 and 16, Nov. 6 and 20, Dec. 4 and 18, Feb. 5 and 19, March 5 and 19, April 2 and 16, and May 7 and 21. For information, call 530-458-5555.

Sept. 8 through Oct. 29

Raising a Reader, 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Colusa County Free Library branches in Arbuckle, Colusa and Williams. The fall Raising a Reader program provides literacy skill development for children ages 0 to 5. Sessions are Tuesdays, Sept. 8 through Oct. 27, in Arbuckle; Wednesdays, Sept. 9 through Oct. 28, in Colusa; and Thursdays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 29, in Williams. Saturday, Sept. 5

Riceland and Beyond Opening Reception, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Colusa County Arts Council Gallery, 151 Fifth St., Colusa. The exhibition features paintings and collage works by Northern California artist Ema Lahey inspired by Sacramento Valley landscapes. The exhibition will remain on display through Dec. 10.

Friday, Sept. 11

Senior Spread, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the second and fourth Fridays of each month at Trinity Friendship Hall, 511 Oak St., Colusa. A gathering for senior citizens, with lunch served at noon. Cost is $5, or $3 if you bring a dish to share.

Saturday, Sept. 12

Grandparents Day, 10 a.m. at the Donna Critchfield Demonstration Garden, 499 Margurite St., Williams. UC Master Gardeners of Colusa County will host grandparents and grandchildren for garden activities, including cutting fresh flower bouquets, picking peppers, touring landscape areas, taking home books and an educational iris exchange.

Monday, Sept. 14

Little Steps, Big Connections, 9 to 10 a.m. at C.D. Semple Park in Colusa. First 5 Colusa, the Colusa Recreation Department and Colusa County C.O.P.C. Family Resource Center will begin a biweekly walking group for parents and caregivers of children ages 0 to 5. Walks will be held on the second and fourth Mondays and include a stroller-friendly walk, information, activities and opportunities to connect with other families. Tuesday, Sept. 15

Author Talk: Doug Aiken, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Colusa County Free Library, 738 Market St., Colusa. The Friends of the Colusa County Free Library will host author Doug Aiken for a discussion of “Race to Resurrection,” a World War II historical thriller. Information at www.colusafol.org.

Wednesday, Sept. 16

4-H New Volunteer Orientation, 6 p.m., Colusa Industrial Properties Conference Room. Colusa County 4-H will hold an orientation for new program volunteers.

Thursday, Sept. 17

Conversation with Council, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Rocco’s Bar and Grill. Williams Mayor Denise Conrado and Councilmember Ryan Codorniz will hold an open discussion about city issues. Attendees may bring questions, comments and concerns. Appetizers will be available with a no-host bar.

Friday, Sept. 18

Travis AFB Woodwind Trio, 7 p.m., Sacramento Valley Museum, 1491 E. St., Williams. The Woodwind Trio from Travis Air Force Base will present a special performance featuring live music at the museum. Admission is free.

Saturday, Sept. 19

Grimes Community Cleanup, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grimes Branch Library parking lot, 240 Main St., Grimes. Colusa County and Recology will accept household, electronic and green waste at the free cleanup event. Supervisor Daurice Kalfsbeek-Smith will be available to answer questions about county programs and services. Free children’s books will be available while supplies last. Hazardous chemicals and certain construction materials will not be accepted.
