The Colusa Police Department reported 283 calls for service in January with 16 agency assists. This is a decrease from December, which was 320, reported Lt. Sara Martin.
Overall, there was a 22% decrease in calls for service in 2022 as compared to 2021. The 2022 year closed out with a total of 3,943 calls for service, whereas 2021 concluded with 5,000. Intiaitally, Colusa anticipated that 2022 would have a higher call volume. The decrease, however, was welcomed due to low staffing levels, Martin said.
During January, there were 13 in-custody arrests and five citations issued in lieu of subjects being booked in jail. There were no domestic violence-related arrests in Jaunay. There was one DUI-related arrest made. There were 40 reports initiated with 37 becoming investigations.
Officers initiated 135 traffic enforcement stops and 55 citations were issued. Several of the citations issued were for cell phone use while driving and speed violations. The Police Services Manager handled 71 calls for service during the month of January.
Martin also reported January saw pleasant changes to the department. Officer Miguel Rios completed Field Training and is now a solo patrol officer. The CPD also welcomed Officer Steve Xiong and has begun field training with Sgt. David Jackson.
Xiong comes to the department with prior law enforcement experience, Martin said.
The Colusa Police Department continues to investigate the murder of Giovanny Alcaraz, who was shot and killed on March 26, 2020, on Wescott Road. The US Marshal Services continues to locate the suspect, Christian Suarez, of Arbuckle, who is believed to have absconded to Mexico, Martin reported.
