Sex offender sent back to prison

A convicted sex offender who reportedly absconded to Los Angeles after violating the terms of his parole will spend more time behind bars.

Colusa County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey A. Thompson sentenced Juan Francisco Alcaraz, 51, of Panorama City, to 24 months in state prison, on Monday, after Alcaraz pleaded no contest to a single felony charge of failing to notify his parole/probation officer of a change of address.

The plea deal with the District Attorney’s Office dismissed with a Harvey waiver a 2019 misdemeanor charge that he failed to register annually as a sex offender, a 2021 charge for giving false information to a police officer, and multiple probation violations.

Alcaraz was originally convicted of sex crimes in connection with the disappearance of a Williams teenager from a party in 2009.

The Williams Police Department reportedly found the teen with Alcaraz inside a motel room after the girl’s parents reported that she was seen leaving the party in a pickup with a man that had been at the gathering without invitation.

Although Public Defender Albert Smith argued for his client to be reinstated on probation because the risk of Alcaraz reoffending is low, Thompson said Alcaraz remains an extremely dangerous sex offender.

Former District Attorney and Special Prosecutor Matthew Beauchamp had argued for the 24-month sentence because Alcaraz had ample opportunity to comply with the terms of his parole and was still non-compliant when he was arrested. â–
