A man accused of committing a lewd act on a child under 14 will be allowed to live in the same vicinity as his alleged victim(s), but only under the 24 hour, seven day a week watchful care of his son and family members.
Colusa County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey A. Thompson said he was reluctant to allow Rafael Gomez Gomez, 80, of Williams, to return to the same neighborhood, but Gomez’ attorney said caring for her father, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, in Sutter County, has become too much for his daughter.
Williams Police officers arrested Gomez around 11 PM on April 26, 2021. The District Attorney’s Office charged Gomez with a single felony count of lewd act with a child, although multiple victims are alleged, officials said.
Gomez was facing up to eight years in state prison if convicted, or up to 15 years if convicted of having multiple victims, but the elderly man’s competency to understand and aid in his defense was called into question early in the case.
Currently, Gomez’ attorney is seeking mandated conservatorship services provided by the Colusa County Public Guardian. ■
