Stonyford man arrested following vegetation fire

A man burning trash, which started the June 30 fire in Stonyford that destroyed multiple structures, is being held on arson charges in the Colusa County Jail.

Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit officials, along with Colusa County partners, arrested Karl Kristofors, 68, who was reportedly burning in a fire pit behind his house.

Fire agencies responded to reports of multiple structural fires near Market Street in Stonyford just before 4 PM.

Cal Fire law enforcement officials were called to help investigate the origin and cause of the fire and, upon completion of their investigation, determined that Kristofors’ fire ignited vegetation that spread to the structures.

Officials said the fire caused the total loss of one mobile home and one shed, and damaged another home and shed.

Kristofors was arrested and charged with two counts of arson, negligently causing a fire to a structure, negligently causing a fire to the wildland, and three counts of declaring a state of emergency. He was booked into the Colusa County Jail and bail was set at $250,000. â–
