A Live Oak woman convicted Monday of possessing a controlled substance for sale will not be sentenced until after she gives birth.
Christina Marie Joven, 33, pleaded no contest to a single felony in a plea deal with the District Attorney’s office that dismisses several other charges.
Joven, who is late in her pregnancy, voluntarily agreed to enter a residential treatment facility until her child is born in exchange for a delayed sentence, her attorney Albert Smith said.
Joven is facing up to three years in prison when she is formally sentenced on Oct. 17.
The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joven on Four Mile Road, in Maxwell, on Feb. 18, after initiating a traffic stop on her vehicle for an expired registration.
According to Deputy John Thomas, who testified at Joven’s preliminary hearing, Joven was wanted and detained on an arrest warrant out of Marin County.
During a search of her vehicle, Colusa County Sheriff’s officials allegedly found a forged vehicle registration, 17.29 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale, several hundred unused small ziplock baggies, two glass smoking devices, and a “Monkey-fist slungshot,” a cue ball sized maritime tool that is illegal in California when carried as a concealed weapon.
In exchange for her plea, Colusa County Superior Court judge dismissed two felony and three misdemeanor charges. ■
