Colusa Police Department Report

(March 2022) There were 366 calls for service for patrol officers in March with 35 agency assists. This is an increase from February which was 315. There were 15 in-custody arrests and 11 citations issued in lieu of subjects being booked in jail. A vast majority of the citations were drug related offenses and suspended driver’s licenses, officials There were two domestic violence related arrests made in February, as well as two DUI arrests made. There were 63 reports with 57 being investigated. During the month of March, officers initiated 227 traffic enforcement stops. There were 61 citations issued for various vehicle violations. There were two reportable traffic collisions, one with injury. The Police Services Manager handled 72 calls for service. Additionally, the PSM continues to handle a significant number of CCW applications. DOJ clearances for CCW applicants continue to experience delays.

Police officials also report that traffic congestion remains to be an issue at both Burchfield Primary School and Egling Middle School.

“Remember that left turns are not permitted from the parking lots of both schools on to either Fremont Street or Webster Street,” Lt. Sara Martin said, in a report. “Please do not stop in the roadway and allow children to exit the vehicle. Not only is this not safe, but it is also a violation of the California Vehicle Code.”

Also in March, six vehicles were towed as part of vehicle abatement. These vehicles had been abandoned along public roadways for extended periods of time. With the availability of additional tow trucks, CPD is hoping to continue to tow vehicles on a regular basis.

(April 2022) There were 347 calls for service for patrol officers in April with 28 agency assists. This is a decrease from 366 in March, a 20 percent decline from 439 during the same period in 2021. Also in April, there were 15 in-custody arrests, with 13 citations issued. There were four domestic violence related arrests made in April, with one DUI arrest. There were 48 reports initiated with 47 investigated. Officers initiated 141 traffic enforcement stops There were 52 citations issued for various vehicle violations. There were no reportable traffic collisions, only information exchanges. The Police Services Manager handled 65 calls for service during the month of April. Colusa Police Department Patrol staff transitioned from 10-hour shifts to 12-hour shifts. The change in shift length is a result of staffing shortages. The CPD is continuing to accept applications for a police officer. ■
