Third person charged with attempted murder

A third person has been charged in connection to the stabbing of a Williams man, who was reportedly lured in by an alleged Yuba City grifter for the purpose of robbery.

Jesus Villareuel-Basurto, 25, of Willows, pleaded not guilty in Colusa County Superior Court on Monday to attempted first degree murder, second degree robbery, and two special allegations of use of a deadly weapon. He was picked up in Glenn County on a Colusa County warrant.

Superior Court Judge Jeffrey A. Thompson has not set bail for Basurto and his co-defendant Misael Agraz Nunez, 43, of Williams.

Both men remain in custody pending court proceedings, at the request of District Attorney Matthew Beauchamp, due to the “incredible level of violence” in a robbery Beauchamp said was pre-planned.

Isela Gradilla, 40, of Yuba City, pleaded no contest to a robbery charge last week, after admitting she drove Arturo Jauregui-Flores, 34, of  Williams, to an area near Lonestar Road, in Arbuckle, on Oct. 11, where he was reportedly stabbed multiple times.

He was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening stab wounds and was later released, law enforcement officials said.

Nunez, 43, of Williams, pleaded not guilty last week to charges of attempted first degree murder, second degree robbery, first degree burglary of an inhabited dwelling, and two special allegations for use of a deadly weapon. Nunez is also charged with bringing contraband into the Colusa County Jail, to which he also pleaded not guilty.

Nunez and Vasurto are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 29 for a setting of a preliminary hearing.
