The man who was sentenced to probation for walking out of Kittle’s Outdoor & Sport Co. last year with a stolen handgun is facing new felony charges including conspiracy to commit a crime.
Dejon Tyrone Stewart, 20, is scheduled to enter a plea on Nov. 1 on charges of transporting marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana for sale, and possession of a controlled substance (mushrooms).
Stewart is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime with Thalia Inez Ugaz, 21, of Yuba City, who is facing the same drug charges.
Stewart, who was charged by the District Attorney’s Office following a probation search in August, was arraigned on the charges on Oct. 12. He is also charged with violation of probation in connection to the felony grand theft of a firearm, to which he pleaded guilty on Feb. 17, 2021.
Stewart admitted to opening the back door of a gun display case when Kittle’s employees were busy with customers on April 1, 2020, and removing a black Glock G20 10mm semi-automatic handgun, which he concealed in the waistband of his pants.
Stewart was stopped by an employee at the door for alleged shoplifting, but the gun was not discovered to be stolen until the store owner reviewed video surveillance.
While Stewart eventually admitted to the theft in exchange for the 24 month probation sentence and was ordered to pay full restitution for the cost of the weapon, the handgun was never recovered.
Ugaz, who failed to appear in court for her arraignment, has not been scheduled to enter a plea. Instead, a warrant for her arrest has been issued. ■
