Colusa woman facing state prison

Shonna Lynn Macias

A Colusa woman who has benefited from California’s transformed criminal justice system didn’t waste time getting into trouble after being released from jail.

Colusa County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey A. Thompson, on Aug. 30, said Shonna Lynn Macias, 43, could face up to four years in state prison for felony assault after she violated the terms of her probation, which required her to obey all laws and abstain from illegal drugs.

Colusa police officers arrested Macias for drug possession on Aug. 20, less than 12 hours after she was released from jail, officials said. She also tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and marijuana when she reported to the Colusa County Probation Department on Aug. 24, Thompson said.

Macias was convicted June 28 after she pleaded no contest to assaulting a elderly woman confined to a wheelchair by means likely to cause bodily injury. She was sentenced to 240 days in jail, less time served, and 24 months formal probation.

Colusa police officers have had a number of run-ins with the transient since she arrived in Colusa from Lake County about 18 months ago. Macias was arrested at the Colusa Motel on Jan. 5 for trespassing and refusing to leave the premises, although the District Attorney’s office did not press charges.

She was arrested on April 6 following the violent altercation with the disabled woman, but was soon released from jail after the California Supreme Court on March 25 eliminated pre-trial detention of poor people charged with most felonies.

Macias is scheduled to be arraigned on drug possession charges on Sept. 27.
