Woman who attacked cop awaits sentencing

Patrica Wesley

A Colusa woman convicted of trying to attack a Williams Police officer with a large kitchen knife in 2020 will see a limited amount of freedom for the first time in 14 months.

Patricia Louise Wesley, 25, was released from the Colusa County Jail on Monday, after the court granted Wesleys sister temporary conservatorship until a more permanent placement can be found for her to have the assistance she needs to care for herself.

Wesley, following a short stay in state hospital, pleaded no contest on May 10 to felony assault on a police officer, in a plea deal with the Colusa County District Attorneys office that dismissed charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting an executive officer.

Wesley will be sentenced July 7, although the young womans mental competency continues to be a factor in the case.

Wesleys behavior and demeanor in court has greatly improved since she received medical care for an undisclosed mental health condition, although officials plan to place her in adult conservatorship while she is on probation.

Wesley has already served more than one year in jail for the assault and will be given credit also for the time she spent hospitalized.

Wesley was arrested April 8, 2020, following a disturbance at a relatives apartment in Williams, in which she tried to avoid arrest by wielding a butchers knife against an officer.

Wesley had a series of run-ins with police in the past. She was charged with carrying a dirk or dagger in 2013, which was dismissed when she pleaded no contest to obstructing a peace officer. In 2014, she pleaded guilty to carrying a switchblade in a deal with prosecutors that dismissed battery charges. In 2015, Wesley was arrested for resisting an executive officer and being under the influence of a controlled substance, although the charges were later dismissed. Ï…
