Harvest Festival Returns

Pumpkins, hay bales, corn stalks, apple cider, trick-or-treaters, and scarecrows are a true tale sign that Autumn is here. For the community of Colusa, the arrival of the season means the return of the Colusa Harvest Festival.

In its second year, the 2014 Colusa Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, October 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Colusa County Courthouse lawn.

With food and craft vendors, live music, and something for the kids, there is something for the whole family to celebrate one of the most bountiful seasons.

” We encourage everyone to come out and support our local vendors, and shop our local businesses,” said event coordinator Stephanie Ponciano.

As the group prepares for the Harvest Festival, the countywide scarecrow contest begins.

” With the success of last year, we want to expand the scarecrow contest to everyone in the county, including businesses, individuals, families, and schools,” said Ponciano.

The scarecrow contest officially begun on September 1st – however, there is still time to enter.

With no rules, and no theme, participants of the contest must create their own, spectacular and unique, yet tasteful scarecrow that will be judged on October 11.

” We will take pictures of all the entries and have them at the Harvest Festival booth where everyone is invited to vote for his or her favorite scarecrow.” said Ponciano.

After the judging is over, participants are asked to leave their scarecrows up until the end of October, to celebrate the season.

Scarecrow entry forms can be picked up at the Friends Around the Block Quilt Shop, Roccos Bar & Grill, and Messicks Hardware. Forms are also available at many of the area post offices and must be returned to All Star Realty, 1004 Market Street in Colusa.

Want to participate in the Harvest Festival as a Vendor? The cost is $20 for a 12 x 12 space. Vendors must bring their own tables, chairs. No electricity is available, and space is available on a first served basis. For more in-formation contact

” Come have a good time, and get an early start on your holiday shopping,” said Ponciano. –
