Concern of Mail Theft for Rural Arbuckle Residents

According to the Colusa County Sheriffs Department, for the last several weeks, rural residents in Arbuckle have been under siege from mail theft.

” There have been about five reports of rural mailboxes being burglarized,” said Lt. Neil Pearson of the Colusa County Sheriffs Department.

Mail was found strewed about on the roadway in the rural areas of Arbuckle and College City.

” It appears that the suspect is going box-to-box and rummaging through the mail looking for valuable mail pieces,” said Pearson.
Many mail thieves usually seek blank checks, credit card and bank statements, and other vulnerable pieces of mail.

To prevent mail theft, the United States Postal Service recommends rural route boxes to pick up your mail promptly after delivery. Dont leave it in your mailbox overnight. If youre expecting checks, credit cards, or other negotiable items, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your mail. If you dont receive a check or other valuable mail youre expecting, contact the issuing agency immediately. Tell your Post Office when youll be out of town; so your mail can be held until you return.

If anyone has information about these crimes, they are asked to contact the Colusa County Sheriffs Department at (530) 458-0200. –
