Dear Editor,
We are writing to express our thanks for the services and community space offered by the Colusa County Free Library.
As a parent of young children, we are always looking for ways to help our kids develop good habits. The extensive book and audiobook collection the Colusa County Free Library offers means we get to bring new books and audiobooks into our home every few weeks that we would not otherwise have access to. As a result our kids have become as excited about reading as they are about playing outside. Thanks to the Inter-Library Loan program, we can easily access materials from the Sutter County, Folsom, Woodland, and Sacramento Public Libraries as well. Any institution that provides such a healthy alternative to screen time, we are both very grateful for.
The Library is also a centralized location for hands-on learning. The Library’s many programs — Sensory Saturdays and Storytime with Ms. Gabby — have also helped our kids have new, enriching experiences, meet their neighbors, and make new friends in a healthy and safe environment. Every week, Garden Club volunteers maintain the yarrow, lavender and other native species in front of the building; Kids Growing Strong (a garden club for kids) meets most Wednesdays right after school to tend the vegetables on the West side of the building and build their connection to land and agriculture that sustains our community and economy; and my family frequently “checks out” seeds from the free Seed Library to fill our backyard garden with flowers and food.
Finally, as we all know, summers are hot in Colusa. The Library is one of the few local places where we as a family can go to escape the heat while doing something productive, fun, or both. We would like to thank the exceptional library staff, Friends of the Library, and the wider Colusa community for supporting this great resource that we treasure.
Very best,
LK James & Mark Leidner
