YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) – An Arbuckle man wanted on a Colusa County felony warrant for more than six months was arrested Oct. 8 after an hourslong standoff with a SWAT team in Yuba City.
Raymundo Mesa, 42, was wanted on a warrant involving possession of multiple firearms, including a machine gun and suppressor. Authorities said Mesa had previously escaped several attempts to arrest him, fleeing on foot and in vehicles.
On Oct. 8, the Special Investigations Unit, assisted by the Yuba-Sutter Regional SWAT Team and Yuba City Police Department, served a search warrant at a home in the 1200 block of Payne Court.
As officers arrived, Mesa fled through the backyard, jumped several fences and entered a nearby vacant house.
Officers surrounded the house and obtained another search warrant. Over the next several hours, they repeatedly ordered Mesa to surrender and used diversionary devices, chemical agents and a police dog in an attempt to bring him out.
The standoff ended when Mesa fell through the ceiling from an attic where he had been hiding. Officers took him into custody.
During a search of the vacant house, officers found a loaded Glock 20 10mm handgun and a cellphone.
Mesa suffered minor injuries and received treatment at a local hospital before officers booked him into the Sutter County Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition and resisting or obstructing officers.
His original Colusa County warrant carried $50,000 bail. Following his arrest, investigators requested an increase in bail, which a Sutter County Superior Court judge approved. Mesa remains in custody without bail.
