COLUSA, CA (MPG)- Colusa’s girls tennis team rounded out the preseason last week at home with a loss at the hands of Las Plumas before bouncing back with a victory over Corning.
Facing LP on Sept. 1, the RedHawks won three singles matches in the contest including No. 1 Janell Garcia (6-2, 6-0), No. 4 Hirami Ochiai (6-2, 6-1) and No. 6 Viviana Trejo (6-0, 6-1), but could not break through in doubles.
Two days later however, Colusa got back to its winning ways taking care of business against Corning by a 7-2 score.
Having swept the Cardinals 9-0 on Aug. 25, Coach Melissa Michalk switched up the ladder but the outcome was still the same for the RedHawks.
Playing at No. 2, Baylee Guizar outlasted her opponent 6-7, 6-3, 10-8, No. 3 Dianett Torres prevailed 6-2, 6-0 and No. 5 Melissa Cruz coasted 6-0, 6-0.
Colusa swept the doubles matches with the No. 1 duo of Guizar and Charlotte Stever posting an 8-1 victory, No. 2 Miranda Perez and Lilah Sutton emerged 8-5, while at No. 3 Cruz and Ximena Dominguez doubled up the competition as they won out 8-4.
This week the RedHawks (3-1) opened Sacramento Valley League play in Durham on Sept. 8 before returning home to face powerhouse Orland in a non-conference match on Sept. 9.
