HONOLULU, HI (MPG) – In a distinct change of pace from the normal slate of preseason games, Colusa made the nearly 2,500 mile trip to the island of Oahu to play in Sacred Hearts Academy’s sixth annual Lancer Volleyball Tournament, where after seven matches they returned to the mainland with good vibes after finishing third.

Running from Aug. 13-15, it was perfect timing for the RedHawks, who were back home in time for the first day of school on Aug. 19.

With some island teams unable to participate due travel cancelations resulting from Tropical Storm Lala, Colusa played a local squad from Kalani High School three times, but also faced four other opponents, finishing 5-2 overall for the tournament.

Peyton Miller and Cindel Oliver received All-Tournament honors, with Miller recording 35 kills and 48 digs and Oliver dishing out 99 assists.

Abby Coronado led the attack with a total of 51 kills, while Marlie Berry turned in a solid effort in the back row logging 69 digs.

Prior to making its way to Hawaii, Colusa dismissed visiting Live Oak last Tuesday by scores 25-18, 25-10, 25-13 behind a big night from Coronado who recorded a game-high 18 kills.

Miller finished the match with 12 kills, while setters Leyla Avera and Oliver handed out 20 and 13 assists respectively.

Defensively, Oliver tied with Braelyn Santana for the team lead in digs with seven apiece.

Back in action this week, the RedHawks (6-2) entertained Gridley on Thursday.
