Check it out! Read, White & Blue Summer Reading at Colusa County Free Library

The Colusa County Free Library invites families to celebrate reading, learning, and America’s 250th Anniversary with our exciting summer programming!

Summer reading is one of the most important ways children can maintain and strengthen literacy skills while school is out. Research consistently shows that children who continue reading throughout the summer are better prepared to return to school in the fall, while those who stop reading often experience learning loss. Beyond academic benefits, reading helps children build imagination, curiosity, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning.

For our youngest learners, ages 0–5, we are offering the Little Firecrackers Summer Early Literacy Program, a fun and engaging series focused on community, colors, celebration, and early literacy skills. Families will enjoy stories, songs, movement activities, and hands-on learning designed to help children build the foundational skills needed for future reading success.

Little Firecrackers will be held July 7–30 at the following locations: Williams Library: Tuesdays, 10:00–11:00 a.m; Colusa Library: Wednesdays, 10:00–11:00 a.m.; and Arbuckle Library: Thursdays, 10:00–11:00 a.m.

For children ages 6–12, our popular Read, White and Blue Summer Reading Camps combine books, creativity, science, games, and hands-on activities in a patriotic-themed celebration of reading and discovery. Camps meet Tuesday through Thursday from 1:00–2:30 p.m. at the following locations: Williams Library: July 14–16; Arbuckle Library: July 21–23; and Colusa Library: July 28–30.

Whether your child is just beginning their literacy journey or already loves to read, the library’s summer programs provide opportunities to learn, make friends, and explore new ideas in a fun and welcoming environment.

Registration for all summer reading programs opens June 15, and families are encouraged to sign up early as space may be limited.
