BUTTE COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Butte College will bring back its cheer program for the 2026-27 school year, giving student-athletes a chance to compete at the collegiate level while supporting campus athletics and events.

The program will cheer at football and basketball games, represent the college at campus activities and may have opportunities to compete nationally. College officials said the first group of athletes will help shape the future and culture of the relaunched program.

Emily Jackson will lead the program as head coach. Jackson has more than a decade of coaching experience and has led the Oroville High School cheer program for the past 12 years.

During her time at Oroville High School, Jackson’s teams earned a JAMZ National Championship, multiple CIF Northern Section titles, a CIF State Championship and finalist honors at the National High School Cheerleading Championship.

Jackson began cheering at age 4 and later cheered for two years at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.

“I take a lot of pride in what I have been able to accomplish,” Jackson said. “I have loved creating a competitive cheerleading program, but even more so, I have loved creating bonds with my athletes. They are the heart and soul of the program.”

Jackson said she looks forward to building a competitive and athlete-focused program at Butte College.

To begin recruitment, Butte College will host a Recruitment Clinic from noon to 3 p.m. May 17 at the Butte College Gym on the main campus. Prospective student-athletes will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills, meet the coaching staff and learn more about the program and future tryouts.

Recruitment information is available through the team’s official Instagram page.
