WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – The Williams Unified School District Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Juan Salas as the district’s next superintendent, effective July 1.
Salas will serve under a three-year contract through June 30, 2029. The agreement sets his base salary at $195,000 for the 2026-27 school year, with potential increases based on board evaluation.
Board President Cesar Perez said Salas brings experience and a focus on collaboration.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Salas to Williams Unified,” Perez said. “His commitment to students, staff and community collaboration aligns with the values of Williams Unified.”
Salas has worked in public education since 1998. He began his career as a social science teacher and later moved into administration, serving as an assistant principal, principal and district coordinator. His experience includes leadership roles in Stockton Unified School District, Dixon Unified School District and Washington Unified School District in West Sacramento. He most recently served as director of health and wellness for Esparto Unified School District.
In that role, Salas led student health and support systems tied to academic performance, attendance and well-being. His work has focused on English learners and underserved student populations, with an emphasis on data-driven instruction and multi-tiered systems of support.
Salas has also led International Baccalaureate programs and career technical education pathways. He has worked across K-12 settings, including elementary, middle and high school campuses.
Under his contract, Salas will serve as the district’s chief executive officer and carry out board policy while overseeing district operations. He will work a 225-day year and receive vacation and health benefits consistent with district management employees.
The agreement includes an annual evaluation tied to district goals. The board may extend the contract based on performance.
Salas holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Concordia University Irvine, a master’s degree from Sacramento State and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Riverside.
“I am honored to serve the Williams community and look forward to working alongside staff, students, families and community partners to continue building strong schools where every student can thrive,” Salas said.
Salas will take over leadership of the district at the start of the 2026-27 school year.
